Purpose of a route survey
A route survey helps identify observed conditions that may affect movement planning. It can support carrier, permit, and dispatch conversations, but it does not replace the issued permit or government approval.
Observed route conditions
A survey may document height-related observations, bridges, wires, signals, railroad crossings, road geometry, construction, restrictions, turning areas, and access issues.
Conditions can change after a survey. Construction, weather, utility work, traffic control, and agency updates can affect the route.
Limits of a survey
A route survey does not guarantee clearance, permit approval, dispatch availability, or successful completion. The carrier, permit, and applicable government authority remain central to movement approval and operation.
